Adventures in Europe, Part 1

Adventures in Europe, Part 1

Part one of a three-part series

Why did we come here? What are we doing? What were we thinking? Did we forget we’re adults with responsibilities? Where’s the dog? Why is there ham in my potato salad?

These are some of the questions my husband and I have asked each other and ourselves many times these past few months. Some days I think we’re crazy for coming here. Other times I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done.

Wheels Up

We left our comfortable home in Ridgefield, Washington in June, sold most of our belongings, including our two cars, and found a new home for our two sheep and Bahama the llama. My husband left his secure government job and, we started a company—Around the World Stories—creating audio stories for kids. We’re taking one year to travel, write and record stories around Europe with our three kids and dog.

We packed one backpack each, grabbed our dog’s teddy bear and said goodbye to friends and family for the year. Starting this company and sharing our passion for learning about other countries has been a dream of ours for a long time. Traveling and living overseas with our kids has also been a dream. So we gathered our courage and did both at the same time.
