SUMMARY:Portland Cello Project Holiday Show
DESCRIPTION:The Reser Presents\nPortland Cello Project Holiday Show\nDate: December 20\, 2025 \nPricing: $45 – $65 \n\nIn the fall of 2006 a group of 9 cellists got on stage at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge to perform western classical music in an informal setting. \nMany of the cellists that night thought that was a fun one-off gig. \nBut the energy of the night carried on\, and Portland Cello Project quickly evolved into a nationally-recognized performing\, recording and educational group touring everywhere in North America\, performing in every type of venue imaginable\, from punk rock clubs to symphony halls\, to street parties\, to TED Talks and exclusive private events\, collaborating and/or touring with everyone from Buckethead to Peter Yarrow (Peter Paul and Mary) to Trampled by Turtles to The Dandy Warhols to Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney)\, longstanding collaborations with Prince alumni Tyrone Hendrix and Saeeda Wright\, and alongside cellists such as Zoe Keating and Ben Solee. \nThe Cello Project’s three-part philosophy for the group that has mostly remained its unchanged north star over the years is: \n1: To bring the cello places you wouldn’t normally see it\n2: To perform music on the cello you wouldn’t normally associate with the instrument\n3: To build bridges between different musical communities through collaborations and community outreach

SUMMARY:Fort Vancouver Inspired Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:There will be tutus and Tchaikovsky\, magic and mystery – necessary ingredients for all Nutcrackers. However\, this one-of-a-kind production will also feature beavers fighting fur trappers\, dancing wapato plants\, and Oregon Trail children arriving via covered wagon as local Fort Vancouver history is weaved into the plot of a classic ballet. \nAudiences will find themselves at a holiday party in the Chief Factor’s dining room of 1840’s Fort Vancouver. Party guests include historically accurate characters at the Fort: a family from Scotland\, a couple from Hawaii\, and a Naval Lieutenant from England. Dr. John McLoughlin arrives bringing a stranger into their midst- a fur trapper from the village whose tales capture the imagination of young Cecilia Douglas and inspire her outlandish dream . . . Beavers stealing a top hat\, a mystical woman conjuring an abalone moon\, 3 shipwrecked castaways scrambling to reach solid ground\, a majestic salmon fighting a river’s current to swim upstream . . . each scene a fantasy inspired by history! \nColumbia Dance has been collaborating with historical experts\, local tribes and Fort Vancouver staff since 2019 to provide a whimsical\, family-friendly story steeped in a complex history. This production features sets by renowned scenic artist Thyra Hartshorn and costumes by international designer Christine Darch.

SUMMARY:Christmas with C.S. Lewis
DESCRIPTION:In the early years of his young adult life C.S. Lewis believed the story of Christ’s birth was nothing more than feel-good myth. That all changed after a particular encounter with his great friend and fellow author\, J.R.R. Tolkien. Although both men loved mythology in general\, Tolkien was convinced that the Jesus myth was the one true myth. That was the start of Lewis’ journey from Atheism to Christianity. From that point on\, Christmas\, for Lewis\, took on an entirely different meaning. \nHere we find him at his home near Oxford on Christmas Eve hosting a group of Americans who are Christmassing in England. They are about to experience an unforgettable assortment of Yuletide recollections which stimulates a whole range of emotions – curiosity\, laughter\, gladness and even some tears. Above all\, they will discover how that encounter with Tolkien forever changed his Christmas celebrations. \nAct 1 – 40 min.\nIntermission – 15 min.\nAct 2 – 40 min.
