Editor’s Pick: “Larry Loves Portland!” by John Skewes (Little Bigfoot, 2014)
If there’s one thing we Northwesterners love, it’s our bridges. And our public art and gardens. And our roses. OK, so there’s a lot to love in Portland and Southwest Washington. Which is why John Skewes created a series of children’s books featuring a dog named Larry who explores cultural landmarks and attractions of famous cities and states in the U.S. Following his 2012 title, “Larry Gets Lost in Portland,” which nods to the Portland Art Museum, Hawthorne Bridge, Old Town, and other landmarks, Skewes now presents a board book, “Larry Loves Portland” which engenders a love for many of the same beloved sites for the younger set just starting out on their love of the Pacific Northwest. Other titles in the series include “Larry Gets Lost in Seattle,” “Larry Loves Seattle,” and “Seattle ABC.”
