September’s Topic: October Surprise. “October Surprise,” first coined by Reagan campaign manager William Casey, is the term used to describe unexpected political disasters just before an election in the United States. Read more about the phenomenon at SmithsonianMag. We will look at some famous October Surprise events and look at current media coverage leading up to the 2020 election.
