Wander Woman – Lacamas Lake Regional Park, Round Lake

Wander Woman – Lacamas Lake Regional Park, Round Lake

Our long, dark winter is over! Time to get outside, breathe the fresh air and let the kids run. Round Lake at Lacamas Lake Regional Park is the perfect spot to do it. There’s something here for everyone, especially if you love wildflowers. And mid-April is the time to catch the camas lily fields in full bloom.

Just a short walk up from the parking lot is a large play structure for little monkeys to climb. Even our 11-, 13- and 14-year old monkeys found it irresistible. “We came here to hike,” I reminded them, but they still wanted to play. As I said, it’s been a long, dark winter.

Once they found out about the lake, just beyond the playground, however, they lost interest in the swings and spinning things and ran to skip rocks. They took one of the steep, unofficial trails down to the water’s edge and started flinging rocks into Round Lake. “Come on,” I insisted. “We came here to hike.”
