Securing Your Business with Keyless Entry

Securing Your Business with Keyless Entry

Keyless entry systems are bridging the gap between convenience and security while adding peace of mind. We recently received a call from a business that wanted to install a keyless entry system to protect its employees from harassment. Accessibility was a problem. We solved that by installing the keyless entry system and their employees were able to be more at ease at work. Now, they can see through the glass door and either allow or deny entry to people without any worries. It changed their business for the better in a secure and convenient way. Businesses love being able to control who enters their building.

Businesses have many visitors daily—customers stopping by, employees needing access, and cleaning crews coming in on the weekends. When looking at securing your business, one option that has gained popularity in recent years is installing electronic keyless entry systems. Keyless entry systems can be used for small businesses, or businesses of any size.

Keyless entry systems can mean an array of things. Some options don’t have a key per se but instead allow businesses or residential units to give out credentials such as cards or key fobs or even your phone that must be presented to enter the premises. Anyone who wants to enter can type in a code on a keypad. Still other systems can have employees or visitors swipe in with their phone or use their fingerprints.  A credential is higher security than a keypad because a code can be communicated to anyone whereas a credential is a more personal item.

Regardless of which option you consider for your business, technologies like keyless entry and electric locks are here to stay.

Keyless Entry Systems Customization

One big benefit of using keyless entry systems is they allow for easy customization. Whoever is in control of the system can set it to allow people to visit only at certain times or on certain days. The passcode to enter, if using a keycode option, can also be easily changed regularly, adding to the security of your business.

These systems also allow employees or visitors, such as freelancers or cleaning crews, to enter a code or swipe to enter the building. That option allows you to keep track of who enters your business. Additional keyless entry systems can be effective at controlling and securing important areas that store products or IT data etc.

Keyless entry systems can also be tied into an existing security system, to compliment a higher level of security. And if your building doesn’t have an alarm system yet, installing one along with a new keyless entry system is a great way to add even more security features.

Keyless Entry System Installation

Installing a keyless entry system can also allow for control of your business even while you’re away from it. Some systems allow for remote lock management, meaning you or whoever is in charge can check to make sure a door is locked by connecting the system to a smartphone. Or if you have a temporary visitor who forgets the code or to bring their keycard, you can unlock the door for them remotely.

Keyless entry systems are also a great asset for shared working spaces, such as rental office space or small multi-tenant offices. This way you can have specific times when each different person renting your space was there, in case any issues arise at a later time. You can also have scheduled lock and unlock times, as well as holiday schedules.

Keyless Entry Codes

Another plus is that many systems allow for a number of individual codes, so you can give different employees or visitors different access codes. For example, you would do this when an employees access needs to be disabled without affecting anyone else’s code.

For businesses that have a person working a front desk, there is the option of using a system with a local remote release. That means the door is constantly locked, and can be opened by someone “buzzing” you in.

Just in case there is a power failure, or your pin or credentials are lost, a manual key override is also available. But the access to that key, or keys, is often limited to a few people at most.

Manual vs. Electronic

We are trained on, and knowledgeable about, both electronic and mechanical locks. As keyless entry evolves, so does the locksmith. Twenty years ago, if someone lost the master key, it would be a time-consuming and expensive project to rekey the entire building. With keyless entry, you just need replace cost effective credentials as they get lost, stolen or just need to be de-activated. Installation does cost more upfront but can potentially be more cost effective over a longer period of time. It’s a balance of cost-effective and cost-expectations.

The best way to ensure your system is properly installed is to hire qualified locksmiths or security professionals, such as those at Harry’s.
